Acute Care Program

LA Sports and Spine is designed to help you get out of pain and back to activity as quickly as possible. Once we have determined that your pain is due to a mechanical cause, rather than something serious (such as a tumor or infection), we will take a two-pronged approach to helping you.

  1. One, we will show you what you can do for yourself (i.e. what activities to avoid and which to perform).
  2. Two, we will offer you customized treatments to speed your recovery . These will incorporate chiropractic, soft tissue, physical therapy, and supervised exercise methods.

We give you the power to help heal yourself

An essential ingredient in getting better quickly is learning what "first-aid" exercises to perform on your own. Most of these are simple limbering manuvers or gentle exercises for your deep "core" muscles, that stabilize your spine or joints.

Once you learn this "first-aid" routine you are able to perform self-treatment throughout the day to speed your recovery.

You can look forward to healing quickly

Most patients without a history of long-term problems are substantially improved within 2 weeks after just 4-6 visits. In fact, most patients are 80-90% recovered within 4-6 weeks. Although you may feel some residual discomfort and sensitivity for up to several months, you should be able to feel much better then when you first came to us. Recurrences in the long-term future are typical, but also are usually only briefly disabling.

A note about chiropractic adjustments

Adjustments or joint manipulation has been repeatedly shown to be effective for a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. If you have not been adjusted before we will discuss with you the risks and benefits of this remarkably safe procedure. It is your decision weather or not you want us to adjust you. Fortunately, at our center we specialize in teaching you self-treatments as well as a wide variety of other methods to get you back to activity . Our philosophy is that we are working for you to help you find a program that meets your goals and expectations.

Common reactions

It has been shown that the first time you receive an adjustment it is common to feel local pain or fatigue for approximately 24 hours. In fact, this is may even be a beneficial sign since most people in whom it occurs have a fairly rapid improvement in their condition. Occassionally, a person has a less common reaction which includes local pain or fatigue lasting longer than 24 hours, a new pain, or other sensations. When this happens usually this means that other (non-adjustive) treatments are preferred for you. Such uncommon reactions are not dangerous or harmful.
