Prevention

LA Sports and Spine considers our patients to be more than passive participants in the pursuit of better health -- they're our partners in the healing process.
Once your condition begins to improve we will show you what things are important for prevention. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely avoid, "flare-ups", recurrences, or aches and pain. But, it is our goal to teach you how to minimize their likelihood and severity. This involves a specialized functional-performance evaluation followed by a prescription of exercises involving " core stability training" and yoga-based flexibility exercises .
Understand your body better
Your body has two muscle systems. The first is a superficial system that produces movement and generates power. (It can be thought of as the husk or shell.) The other is a deep "core" which is responsible for guiding, controlling, and stabilizing movements.
The superficial system is under voluntary control, whereas the deep system is automatic. When pain strikes, the deep system usually shuts off, while the superficial one tightens to guard and protect. We will show you how to perform specialized, gentle exercises that you can do at home. As you become stronger, you'll be able to control your body better -- which will help prevent pain from occuring in the future. These gentle exercises have more in common with Pilates or Yoga than with traditional strength training.
How long does a preventive program take to learn?
Most patients visit us between five and fifteen times. Coming in will feel a little like going to a gym, yoga class, or a Pilates studio. The atmosphere is always casual; in fact, you may choose to wear gym clothes, such as sweats, a t-shirt, or shorts.
During your visits, you'll learn a personalized training program that suits your goals and lifestyle. Whatever fitness regimen you are currently on will be incorporated into this, with the goal to enhance your overall fitness and stability. Many patients will continue to visit once every one to three months for ongoing monitoring of their work-out programs.
